Learning Through Association

Summary:

In general terms, this IpLearn solution tracks a user's learning progress in a subject, and decides the next logical teaching step based on what the user previously learned. One approach is to expand into new areas related to those in which the user is strong. Likewise, interest in weak subject areas can be sparked through introduction to related ones, a combination that quickly builds expertise and enlightenment.

Features Include:

  • Dividing a subject, for example, into areas with difficulty levels and linking related areas together.

  • Classifying which areas the user has learned and which areas the user has not yet learned, based on assessing the user's learning progress.

  • Facilitating progressive learning through areas that are related to those the user previously learned by using weighted factors, such as the difficulty level of the learning materials, the amount of time elapsed between learning different areas, and the user's assessed understanding of different areas.

  • Setting a combination of rules to select areas to be learned, for example, by an instructor according to the needs of the user as well as the areas to be taught.

  • Determining when to present new concepts, present materials in the same area, or present materials in a related area, based on, for example, prior learning, user weaknesses, and teaching objectives.

  • Deciding when to present new, unrelated materials to further enlighten the user.
